People Power Practice takes place on Thursday 17 January at Vivacity Key Theatre, Peterborough. It is the first in Creative People and Places series of six strategic discussion events on the theme of inclusive audience engagement.
I am absolutely thrilled to start 2019 by presenting at 'People Power Practice' symposium for senior cultural leaders from Arts Council England funded National Portfolio Organisations. It's a great opportunity to have important discussions with progressive leaders who want to build stronger approaches to inclusive engagement.
My provocation discussion is called 'The Human Factor' and I will be sharing my expertise of working with South Asian communities across the UK. Highlighting, how working with communities impacts the art I create as well as developing my own practice. I will also be sharing my thoughts on how artists can work in more meaningful ways with communities and engage diverse audiences.

'Mother Tongues from Father Lands' - London's Southbank Centre (Producer for national touring theatre show, Alchemy Festival).
2018 was characterised by major conversations around democratic approaches to cultural engagement and inclusive leadership.
This event hosted by the Creative People and Places network offers senior leaders of cultural organisations an opportunity to reflect on these themes, discuss insights and challenges and to think about the next steps toward genuine and long-term engagement with communities.

Through a mix of provocation and discussion involving delegates and a range of speakers, the programme will include insights into:
embedding inclusive engagement approaches
creating relevant and meaningful cultural experiences – including co-commissioning and co-creating work with communities
people-focused, values-led inclusive leadership
understanding and exploring how artists and communities can work together
the challenges and rewards of working in this way
The programme will draw on real examples from the Creative People and Places (CPP) network and beyond, highlighting learning from a range of work, with conversation and exchange at the centre of the day.
There will also be the opportunity to hear about the key findings of Creative People and Places’ research into engagement approaches with Sarah Boiling.
